Pokemon Snap Announced for Nintendo Switch

As the world continues to face challenges associated with the pandemic, video game news remains sparse. Sony treated fans to over 75 minutes of video game trailers and PS5 details; however, Nintendo has been oddly silent since the March Direct Mini. As the community anxiously awaits news on the next Mario and Zelda titles, the Pokemon Company bridged the gap. In a surprise announcement on Wednesday, Pokemon Snap is coming to the Nintendo Switch.
Pretty as a Picture
Spin-off series are notorious for developing a cult following, and perhaps no series embodies this principle quite like the Pokemon series. From Detective Pikachu to Pokemon Trading Card, Nintendo fans collectively enjoy deviations form mainline games. While the Pokemon Company has expanded upon several of its ancillary games, a glaring hole in the spin-off series remained. Until now.
A sequel to the 1999 Pokemon Snap game is under construction for the Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo 64 spin-off sold relatively well, and critics praised the unique gameplay. Two decades later, the Pokemon Company revealed the trailer for the sequel. Although short, the video is packed with information:
- The game features a wide range of Pokemon, which includes both first generation and current generation favorites.
- Day and night cycles.
- Upgraded character models in comparison to Sword and Shield. In addition, the game appears to run at 60fps.
- Motion controls, which could indicate single joy-con gameplay.
The glaring criticism of the original Pokemon Snap was the limited roster. While the first generation roster included 151 characters, the Nintendo 64 game featured only 62 Pokemon. So long as Nintendo includes a sizable roster, fans should be excited about the upcoming game.
