Sony cancels playstation 5 reveal event
As the world continues to face a myriad of challenges, the video game industry is struggling to find appropriate moments to reveal new products. While some communities are slowly recovering from disaster, others are facing unprecedented times of uncertainty. In a compassionate gesture to the latter, Sony decided to postpone its PlayStation 5 reveal event.
Not the Right Time to Celebrate
With the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) cancelling E3 2020, the entire video game industry was sent into a tailspin. The annual event is the cornerstone of video game news and releases, and fans across all regions of the globe expressed their disappointment. But most major publishers and developers promised to host online events as a substitute. With its PlayStation 5 releasing in the fall, Sony scheduled to host its big online reveal on June 4th. However, with the world facing unparalleled times of difficulty, Sony wisely decided to cancel the event. The company released the following statement through its official Twitter account.
Ugly and Huge (Rumor)
Although fans will have to wait a little longer to learn about Sony’s next generation console, the PS5 rumors continued to fly. Twitter and Reddit were filled with predictions about the console’s design, backwards compatibility, and upcoming games. The following image began swirling around the official r/PS5 Reddit page.
Take what we are about to say with the utmost grain of salt. The 4chan forums were filled with users stating that the PS5’s design is “ugly and huge”. While Sony has not shown pictures of the new hardware, rumors are that the console is shaped either like a pyramid or outer-worldly vacuum cleaner.
Regardless of the design, fans are more concerned about the games. Even though most of the following titles were foregone conclusions, it is exciting that Sony could soon reveal details about the most anticipated games. Below is a short list of titles floating around the Internet.
