Fans of Activision Blizzard games have experienced their share of recent disappointments. But on Monday, a rumor leaked that might just restore the faith of the Diablo faithful. According to the French website ActuGaming, the list of Activision games for 2020 includes a remaster of Diablo 2. Let’s dive in.

It is hard to believe that nearly 20 years have passed since Diablo 2 released for PC. At the time, the game caught the industry by surprise and quickly became the fastest-selling PC game ever. For the next sixteen years, Activision supported the game with various updates, and multiple sites have placed the legendary RPG hack-and-slash adventure on lists of Top 50 games of all time.

But fans wanted more. While Activision Blizzard service games have experience an unprecedented lifespan, the company is entering unfamiliar territory. Although fans continue to enjoy its games, the Activision “magic” is slowly fading. As the demon-hunting community waits for the next installment in the Diablo series, the industry giant is rumored to be remastering the 2000 classic.

According to ActuGaming, Activision plans to release the Diablo 2 remaster in 4Q of 2020. Dubbed Diablo 2 Resurrected, the game is designed to placate fans until Activision can complete Diablo 4. But unlike most studios, Activision is not using its traditional Diablo studio on the remaster. Instead, the company is employing Vicarious Visions, which successfully remastered the Crash Bandicoot and Crash Team Racing games. Both games have achieved critical acclaim on multiple platforms; therefore, the Diablo remaster should be in good hands. But only time will tell.
