The Outer Worlds Switch Release Date – June 5th

- The Outer Worlds releases on the Nintendo Switch on June 5, 2020
- The game will feature a day one patch that is approximately 6GB
Earlier in the year, we reported that Obsidian planned to release The Outer Worlds for the Nintendo Switch on March 6th. Due to development challenges associated with the recent pandemic, Obsidian decided to delay the release indefinitely. After several weeks of uncertainty, Obsidian not only announced a new release date but also revealed a physical release for the Switch version of the game.
Worth the Wait
Along with the Twitter reveal, Obsidian posted the following message on its official website:
Greetings employees of Halcyon,
We wanted to share an exciting update that we plan on launching The Outer Worlds for the Nintendo Switch on June 5th, 2020. As we prepare for another arrival of new colonists, we have some very important information for those making this journey, specifically for you colonists who prefer your goods in physical form: The retail version The Outer Worlds comes on a physical cartridge, and it will be accompanied by a day one patch that could be up to 6 GB. This patch will optimize gameplay, provide additional hi-res textures, and include other fixes to provide the employees of Halcyon with the best gameplay experience. Please ensure you have planned accordingly and have available space necessary for the patch.
The Outer Worlds for Nintendo Switch will retail for $59.99 digitally and physically. We appreciate your dedication to the Board. And remember: it’s not the best choice, it’s Spacer’s Choice!
Obsidian Entertainment
While it is unknown how the game will run on the Nintendo Switch, it is encouraging that Obsidian is planning such a large day one patch. With multiple Switch titles announced for April and May, The Outer Wilds appears to be perfectly timed for an early summer release. Switch owners will not have to wait too much longer to dive into one of the best action-RPGs of 2019.
Conclusion
While Switch owners were initially disappointed with The Outer Worlds delay, the addition of a physical cartridge release is a welcomed compromise. But we want to know what you think?
