Borderlands 3 Waited for the Right Time on Season Pass 2

In business and everyday life, timing is everything. While the video game industry has enjoyed record sales in 2020, publisher 2K Games continues to struggle. Traditional moneymakers, such as NBA and WWE 2K, feel stagnant, and fans responded accordingly by refusing to purchase the games. Despite multiple setbacks, a recent announcement from Gearbox Software could propel 2K Games to success in 2020. Perfect timing is the key, and the product in question is the next Borderlands 3 Season Pass. Let’s dive in.
Not a Moment Too Soon
Releasing a next-generation console is always a challenge. While fans are excited for updated graphics and processing power, the availability of new games is quite often lackluster. Simply put, not every console can launch with a game-of-the-year winner, such as Nintendo’s release of Breath of the Wild in 2017. Although Spider-Man and Demon’s Souls are launch-day titles for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X is relying on Assassins Creed Valhalla and the catalog of Xbox Game Pass. This lack of Triple-A content has created a void that Gearbox is strategically hoping to exploit.
Announced on the game’s official site last week, the next Borderlands 3 Season Pass will release alongside Sony and Microsoft’s next generation hardware. Dubbed the Designer’s Cut and Director’s Cut, the two DLC packs offer new skill trees and a new game mode.
- Designer’s Cut – Launches on November 10th and includes new skill trees for each hunter and a new game mode.
- Director’s Cut – Launches in Spring 2021. Currently, there is little information on the second DLC pack.
To celebrate the new content, Gearbox also announced a series of October live streams on Twitch. During these broadcasts, Borderlands employees will showcase the skill trees from select hunters and promote special episodes of Ultimate Vault Hunters. Finally, Gearbox will debut the new gameplay mode Arms Race on Halloween.
- October 20, 9:00 AM PT – Amara/FL4K new Skill Tree reveals with livestreams and a special episode of Ultimate Vault Hunters
- October 22, 9:00 AM PT – Moze/Zane new Skill Tree reveals with livestreams and a special episode of Ultimate Vault Hunters
- October 29, 9:00 AM PT – The Borderlands Show premieres, featuring the new Arms Race mode and much more
- October 30, 9:00 AM PT – The Bordercast debuts the first live, hands-on Arms Race gameplay
Conclusion
The timing of the next Borderlands 3 Season Pass is perfect. With the void of Triple-A games available on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X launch days, Gearbox and 2K Games have a golden opportunity to salvage a subpar year. So long as fans support Borderlands on next generation hardware, the season pass should be a resounding success. The Season Pass is currently available for pre-order on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One for $49.99.
