Mario 35th Anniversary Collection Leaked (Rumor)

Few companies generate more excitement or rumors quite like Nintendo. As evidenced by the resounding success of Nintendo Direct presentations, fans are perpetually starving for updated information on upcoming projects. While each Nintendo franchise garners massive support, none are more beloved than the Mario series. Spanning a course of 35 years, the Mario series boasts 20 mainline titles and even more spin-off games. Despite the series’ success, Nintendo has only released a handful of the legacy titles on the Nintendo Switch. However, the trend could change. On Saturday, a rumor became to spread across the internet that a Mario 35th anniversary collection is coming soon to the Nintendo Switch. Let’s dive in.
Rumor Has It
As a large portion of the video game industry continues to reap the financial rewards of releasing classic titles on modern consoles, Nintendo remains hesitant to older games onto the Nintendo Switch. While the hybrid console owner has ported several Wii U titles, Nintendo has yet to dip into the N64, GameCube, and Wii library. But change could be on the horizon as rumors continue to circulate the Internet.

According to renowned rumor “expert” Zippo, Nintendo has a robust plan to celebrate Mario’s 35th anniversary. But included in Zippo’s statement is a plea for tempered expectations. Here is what fans can expect in the upcoming Nintendo Direct presentation:
- Mario 64 will not include an high-definition upgrade. Nintendo will release the game in widescreen; however, the game will not resemble Mario Odyssey.
- Super Mario Sunshine and the two Mario Galaxy games are releasing in high-definition.
- Super Mario 3D World will include added content.
Although rumors of a 3D Mario collection are not new, the detailed graphical predictions are odd. The Nintendo 64 and GameCube libraries are notorious underutilized, yet fan nostalgia for these platforms remains fervent and intense. Other notable franchises include Pikmin, Zelda, Metroid, Fire Emblem, and Earthbound. If proven successful, the Mario 35th anniversary collection might inspire Nintendo to release more series in the future. In the meantime, Nintendo fans continue to wait for the next Nintendo Direct.
