  • The Witcher 3 version 3.6 update is now live for the Nintendo Switch
  • Version 3.6 includes many graphical updates as well as cross-save functionality between Steam and Nintendo

The Nintendo Switch continues to breathe life into iconic games from the early to mid 2010s. While some AAA developers, such as EA, chose to develop lazy ports for the Switch, others are taking a more methodical approach. CD Projekt Red is definitely in the latter category, especially as it pertains to The Witcher 3 port. While this massive gem runs fairly well on Nintendo’s hybrid console, CD Projekt Red continues to work on the in-game code. In its latest version 3.6 update for the Switch, The Witcher 3 looks and plays better than ever.

Sharpening the Sword(s)

Simply porting an iconic game, such as The Witcher 3, to the Nintendo Switch is no small feat. While the handheld console packs a punch with its Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, companies have struggled to port modern games developed for the PlayStation 4 and XBOX One. Despite the odds, Projekt CD Red did the impossible with The Witcher 3 by porting it to the Nintendo Switch. Now the company is improving the graphics along with a huge revelation. Here are the specifics according to the official Witcher 3 website:

  • Couch control support.
  • Save file integration with GOG, Steam and versions of the game for Switch from different regions.
  • More text languages (in selected regions).
  • More graphical options.
  • Added multiple performance optimizations.
  • Fixed various visual and functional bugs.
  • Various gameplay and crash fixes.

While the graphical improvements are immediately noticeable, perhaps the biggest improvement is the new cross-save feature. The Switch version now includes a cross-save feature in which PC players can transfer their save data between the hybrid console and Steam and vice-versa. This feature is huge and gives players an added incentive to pick up Nintendo’s hybrid console to play The Witcher 3 on the go.
