Bethesda and 2K Games Team Up for Australian Fire Relief

As brush fires continue to rampage across Australia, humans and animals alike are in a fight for survival. According to the University of Sydney, over 1 billion animals have died from the brush fires, and several species are on the verge of extinction. In these trying times, companies are choosing to put their differences aside to raise money and awareness for the Australian wildfires. Over the weekend, Bethesda and 2K Games joined the cause by teaming up for a charity live-stream each other’s games.

An Unlikely Partnership

While 2K Games is by no means Bethesda’s largest competitor, partnerships between two video game companies are rare. When disaster strikes, sometimes competitors are able to set aside their differences to support a noble cause. Such was the case with Bethesda and 2K Games this past weekend.

Bethesda’s Australian community manager, Jonny Roses, posted this quote on the company’s official website on Thursday:

For the past week, we at Bethesda have been working with 2K on an Australian bushfire relief fundraiser, to help raise funds for those who have been affected by the devastating fires in Australia. On Friday, February 14, both companies will play each other’s games on their respective Twitch channels.

The four-hour live stream featured representatives from both companies playing each others games in an effort to raise money through Tiltify. The 2K Games staff started by playing Skyrim, and the Bethesda reps finished by playing Borderlands 3. While the entire event raised only $1,805 USD in disaster relief, the message was clear: People must put their differences aside to help those in need.
