Apex Legends Season 3 – A Resounding Success

apex legends season 3 logo makes fans go wild

In the crowded arena of the battle royale genre, Apex Legends is carving out a niche. Despite not having a solo or duo experience like Fortnite or PUBG, AP‘s three-player team format is growing in popularity. The special abilities of the game’s “Legends” continues to resonate with fans who are looking for a unique experience to share with friends.

Analysis

Almost two months ago, EA revealed the details of Apex Legends Season 3: Meltdown. The new season included the following upgrades:

  • The game added a new legend, Crypto, who specializes as a hacking and encryption expert.
  • EA also added a new weapon: the charge rifle, which is an energy weapon designed to destroy enemies at close range.
  • Players can unlock over 100 new items in the upgraded battle pass format. These items include three new Legend skins that players can earn in weekly and daily challenges.
  • Finally, players can compete in the new Ranked League format that rewards players with additional cosmetics.

Launched on October 1st, critics were skeptical if the Season 3 additions would be successful. Fans responded by making October the best revenue months since launch. According to the Nielsen Company, Apex Legends generated $45 million in revenue during the month of October. While this figure is well below the revenue of the FIFA series, AP increased its earnings by nearly three times from September, thereby, making it the best month since the game’s launch in February 2019. According to SuperData, “Respawn’s shooter has clearly grown into an important growth driver for EA since its launch in February.”

Conclusion

Each new season of AP seems to outpace the last, which must concern the likes of Epic games and PUBG. As Apex continues its growth in the battle royale space, it will be interesting to see how Fortnite, PUBG, Call of Duty, and other battle royale games respond. As long as EA’s battle royale continues to be different from the competition, the sky is truly the limit for the Apex series.
